By Clare Makintosh

Every morning and evening, Zoe Walker takes the same route to the train station, waits at a certain place on the platform, finds her favorite spot in the car, never suspecting that someone is watching her…

It all starts with a classified ad. During her commute home one night, while glancing through her local paper, Zoe sees her own face staring back at her, a grainy photo along with a phone number and listing for a website called findtheone.com.

Other women begin appearing in the same ad, a different one every day, and Zoe realizes they’ve become the victims of increasingly violent crimes—including rape and murder. With the help of a determined cop, she uncovers the ad’s twisted purpose…a discovery that turns her paranoia into full-blown panic. For now Zoe is sure that someone close to her has set her up as the next target.

And now that man on the train—the one smiling at Zoe from across the car—could be more than just a friendly stranger. He could be someone who has deliberately chosen her and is ready to make his next move…

Review

This book poped up as a recommendation on goodreads for me so in my next Book depository order I had decided to pick it up. The summary sounded exciting and something different from my regular pick of crime mystery.

The story is narrated through a number of characters including the mystery baddy and their own view as the story unfolds. This keeps the story interesting and adds good flow. The pace however was somewhat slow and the suspense that keeps you at reading did not exist until the last 40 pages of the book. Lacked excitement for such a good idea.

At some stages of the story more background was given to the characters past or what they were mentaly dealing with to help build them, however it didnt add anything to the story and felt pretty flat and wasted time reading. The characters were different but not greatly developed, more could have been done.

The baddy was both obvious in the end and not at the same time which was good in the sense that you think you know and you are right but hats not the full picture.

Conclusion

The book was slow to read and didnt have enough suspense to keep me interested. The last 40 pages were exciting but would you read a full book just for the last few pages of it to entertain you, probably not. I wouldnt be recommending this book to friends, story was catching but thats about it. More potential in the book than the outcome. I give this a 2 out of 5.
